Outline of a Five-Paragraph Essay:

Introduction
At the beginning of the introduction, you want to engage the readers and make them want to read your paper.
  1. Ask a question
  2. Start with a quotation
  3. Begin with a joke, a story, a clever saying, etc.

    • After engaging the reader, you want to transition into your paper topic GENERAL --> SPECIFIC

Thesis Rules:
    1. One sentence; not a question
    2. It should be arguable; not a fact

    4. Use action verbs in the thesis; not linking verbs.
    5. Write the thesis in active voice (the subject of the sentence performs the action.)

My thesis: Every student should have a free day in the middle of the week.
